Deion Sanders wasted no time bringing changes to the University of Colorado Buffaloes following his introduction as head coach.
Well, yet another change for the program could be on the horizon.
Citing a source, Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports that the Buffaloes program have held “substantive” discussions with the Big 12 about potentially joining their conference. Colorado currently plays in the Pac-12 Conference:
“With the latest round of realignment having slowed to a crawl after a tumultuous two years, it appears as it may be close to picking up steam again. Colorado has been in “substantive” talks with the Big 12 about possibly joining the growing league, a source with knowledge of the discussions tells CBS Sports.
While a move out of the Pac-12 is not assured, Colorado is performing due diligence to determine whether to return to the conference it once called home. The Buffaloes, like the rest of the Pac-12, remain in wait-and-see mode regarding a new media rights deal that has yet to be solidified.
Colorado and the Big 12 have met face-to-face while involved in consistent talks over a period several months, according to multiple sources. It was made clear that a move to the Big 12 would not be made without the support of football coach Deion Sanders.”
Rick George, the athletic director at Colorado, offered the following comments to CBS Sports:
“I have no comment other than what I said last week, We are proud members of the Pac-12. In a perfect world, we’d love to be in the Pac-12, but we also have to do what is right for Colorado at the end of the day.”
The Buffaloes’ Pac-12 rivals consist of the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, California Golden Bears, Oregon Ducks, Oregon State Beavers, Stanford Cardinal, UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans, Utah Utes, Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars.

The 55-year-old Sanders was hired by the University of Colorado following a miserable 1-11 season. The two-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback previously coached the Jackson State Tigers from 2020 to 2022.
Over his three years at Jackson State, “Prime Time” compiled a 27-6 record, leading the school to consecutive SWAC Championship Game victories in 2021 and 2022.
Sanders will coach two of his sons, safety Shilo Sanders and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, at Colorado. Five-star recruit and cornerback Travis Hunter is another one of the notable additions made by Sanders following his hiring in Colorado.
