ESPN’s Marcus Spears was not pleased with some of the latest comments coming from Deion Sanders.
The former NFL cornerback has transitioned to coaching and caused quite a stir when he opted to leave Jackson State for Colorado late last year. But what’s Deion Sanders without controversy?
Sanders has already built a reputation as one of the best football recruiters in the nation and he’s flat-out claimed to be the best when it comes to securing college talent. The two-time Super Bowl champion discussed some of his principles as it relates to recruiting while on the Rich Eisen Show earlier this month, noting that family background plays a huge reaction in his selection of players.
The new Buffaloes head coach said what many other coaches won’t say out loud, stating that he wants quarterbacks with high GPAs and who come from homes with both parents, as well as offensive linemen who have stong father figures. As for defensive linemen, Sanders said he wants players who are from single-parent households, hungry and are looking to feed their mothers.
Spears, an analyst for ESPN, found the comments distasteful and tweeted “this sh*t ain’t funny” in response. The former defensive end also agreed with the notion that the likes of Dabo Swinney or Jimbo Fisher would have had hell to pay for saying what Sanders said.

“Ion know prime like that but all my interactions with him been cool,” he wrote. “I ain’t judging the man I just ain’t rocking with what he said right here. Ion know him well enough to claim he one way or the other but this wasn’t it.
“None of that Sh*t based in fact on success which is what makes it the ultimate stereotype.”
Sanders has caught some flak for his comments on the podcast but he’s likely to double down on them if given the opportunity.
