The Colorado Buffaloes are set to lose yet another highly-rated player to the transfer portal ahead of Deion Sanders’ second season in charge.
Running back Alton McCaskill IV is headed elsewhere after a redshirt year with the team in 2023 and will be entering the portal for the second time in his college career.
McCaskill played four games with the Buffaloes last season, making 14 carries for a total of 59 yards.
ESPN‘s Pete Thamel broke the news of his decision to enter the portal late Wednesday night.
The RB tore his ACL while with the Houston Cougars in April 2022. He was sidelined for the Buffs’ offseason last year and had the non-contact jersey removed during the middle of the term but didn’t see much action as a lingering injury saw him return to the fringes.

It appears he’s back at full strength, and there was some excitement over the possibility of a partnership with Dylan Edwards. However, another school will benefit from his presence in the backfield.
McCaskill had an impressive freshman year with the Cougars, registering 981 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. His exploits earned him the AAC Rookie of the Year award.
The player’s father, Alton McCaskill III, suggested in a tweet that his son was the victim of favoritism, but it has since been deleted.
“If my sons not RB1 We Gotta Go….” he wrote. “He was ready last year! He’s a 100% this year! Unfortunately have to find another home where there’s no favoritism and he is valued, appreciated and has no doubts about RB1… He is the best RB in Colorado…But He Not settling! We Going!”
The Colorado Buffaloes Have Lost Multiple Players Since Monday
The Buffaloes have lost 14 players to the transfer portal this week alone, with former five-star recruit Cormani McClain also set to leave after a challenging season at cornerback.
The portal will remain open for a little under two weeks; there’s still time for Coach Prime to bring in an experienced replacement for the departing running back.
