The Colorado Buffaloes were one of America’s most widely-followed sports teams over the final quarter of 2023, and it was all because of one man.
That would be Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who signed a lucrative deal to take over as the Buffaloes’ football head coach following a successful three-year tenure with the Jackson State Tigers.
“Prime Time” brought plenty of national attention towards the Buffaloes, who were the top story early on in the season with a perfect 3-0 start. The Buffaloes wound up dropping eight of their final nine games, however, to finish with a 4-12 record.
According to the two-time Super Bowl champion himself, sports fans placed a mammoth $700 million worth of wagers on the Buffaloes during Prime Time’s first year in Boulder:
Over his three years at Jackson State, Prime Time compiled a 27-6 record and led the school to consecutive SWAC Championships in 2021 and 2022.
The Buffaloes will kick off their 2024 season with a road contest against the archrival Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sept. 7. Last season, the Buffaloes defeated the Cornhuskers 36-14 in their home opener.
