Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy has said that Colorado told him not to bother showing up to their home opener against Nebraska this coming Saturday.
Portnoy, who recently bought the company back from PENN Entertainment for just $1, had plans to air a live show during Colorado’s second fixture on the weekend. He will likely rue missing that one given how entertaining their first game was as the Buffaloes pulled off a stunning upset against the Horned Frogs on September 2.
“Colorado told us not to come,” he wrote on X. “So we pivoted.”
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders appeared to have no idea why.
“What’s going on man,” he asked in a reply to the tweet. “You know y’all are family!”
“I know,” Portnoy responded. “I didn’t want to bother you.

“We were told not to come ’cause Fox was coming and they couldn’t give us a spot for the show. No clue who our people talked to. We’ll get there another time.”
Portnoy also responded to a user suggesting that the school isn’t keen on splitting a crowd between FOX and Barstool.
“I’m guessing it has to do with FOX bringing Big Noon Kickoff to Boulder and CU not wanting a split crowd between the two,” @IceColdSprts wrote.
“That was exactly it,” Portnoy agreed.
As to where Barstool has pivoted to is still unknown.
It’s been a bad period for Portnoy and Barstool as the company is losing money, while the founder is set to cut 25 percent of his staff. Still, Dave remains adamant he can save the platform, saying as much to Tucker Carlson in a recent interview.
