ESPN has made a ton of strange decisions this year and it continued this week.
Dan Orlovksy announced on social media that he’s been removed from college football coverage for the 2023 season.
“Was taken off CFB games,” Orlovsky told fans.
He stated this after The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel shared ESPN’s press release, which announced Dan Mullen and Derek Mason among some newcomers to its broadcasting booths.
The former Huskies quarterback was a regular calling college football games in 2022 and he was even promoted to the No. 2 NFL team alongside Steve Levy and Louis Riddick Jr. This makes this new move even more odd.
It should be noted that his demotion does not seem to affect his NFL role. Four Monday Night Football doubleheaders could give Orlovsky more commentary assignments throughout the 2024 season, and he remains a regular analyst on NFL Live.

Instead of Orlovsky, Robert Griffin will provide commentary alongside Bob Wischusen and Riddick will now work with Mark Jones for Saturday games on ABC.
Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy joins Sean McDonough to call ESPN’s Saturday night game. Jesse Palmer takes McElroy’s spot next to Joe Tessitore.
Before he became known as a commentator, Dan Orlovsky served two stints with the Detroit Lions, primarily as a backup quarterback. Orlovsky played in the NFL from 2005 to 2015 and became the butt of the joke at one point when he ran out of the back of the end zone as quarterback for the Detroit Lions.
He played for the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before wrapping his career with Detroit in 2015.
In 26 career games, Orlovsky had 3,132 passing yards and 15 touchdown passes.
