The No. 1 high school boys basketball player in the country is off the board after Cooper Flagg announced he will play for the Duke Blue Devils at least for one season before he heads off to the NBA.
The Blue Devils landed a verbal commitment Monday from 2024 consensus No. 1 recruit Cooper Flagg, winning a recruiting battle with reigning national champion UConn.

Flagg’s commitment continues Jon Scheyer’s hot recruiting to start his coaching tenure as Duke was No. 1 in the 247sports rankings for the Class of 2022 as Scheyer took the lead on putting together the incoming class for his first season as Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski’s designated successor.
Duke already has commitments from five-star forwards Isaiah Evans and Jon Knueppel, as well as four-star forward Darren Harris in the 2024 class.
If anybody thought Duke would fall off a map with Mike Krzyzewski gone, they are sorely mistaken.
