Travis Hunter’s devastating injury against the Colorado State Rams two weeks ago reportedly prompted the two-way star to get health insurance.
Hunter suffered a lacerated liver following a hard hit from the Rams’ Henry Blackburn while he was out of bounds. Hunter, a standout wide receiver and cornerback, was ruled out for for at least three weeks.
Per a report from Daniel Libit of Sportico, Hunter is working on getting coverage following the career-threatening injury. Multiple Buffaloes players have since followed suit and are looking to get insurance as well:
“Hunter, Sportico has learned, is still in the process of obtaining permanent total disability and critical injury coverage, income protection that has become increasingly common among the sport’s best NFL prospects. The 20-year-old, who plays both offense and defense, continues to be sidelined from a lacerated liver caused by the hit.
According to multiple people familiar with the situation, neither Hunter nor any other Colorado Buffaloes—college football’s current viral story thanks to the reality-show allure of their head coach—were covered prior to the Colorado State game. That included quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son, a potential top-10 pick in next year’s NFL Draft.”
In his first three games of 2023, Hunter has 16 receptions for 213 yards. As a cornerback, he has nine tackles, two pass defenses and one interception. His lone pick came in the team’s stunning upset win over the TCU Horned Frogs in the season opener.
The Buffaloes suffered their first loss of the season to the Oregon Ducks, a 42-6 decision, at Autzen Stadium last Saturday. Deion Sanders’ club will try to bounce back tomorrow when they host Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans.
