He may be the new head coach on the scene at a program that has been notoriously bad for years, but the type of person he is attracts players to want to play for him. The new Buffaloes head coach landed one of the best transfer classes in college football this offseason. The addition of some of those players has seemingly come at the expense of some players who were already on the team.
On Saturday, the day the spring transfer portal opened, five Colorado players decided to take their talents elsewhere and enter the transfer portal. The list of players includes Jayle Stacks, Keyshon Mills, Nikko Reed, Dylan Dixson, and Austin Smith.
On Saturday, tight end Austin Smith became one of the latest Colorado Buffaloes football players to announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal. He will have three years of eligibility remaining after playing in Boulder for two seasons.
When he first addressed the Colorado Buffaloes, he famously told the roster that, ‘he would be bringing his own luggage, and it’s Louis’.
Some players that were once projected to be major contributors have now almost lost their role entirely, and as a result, want to look for a spot where they can see the field this season, hence the departure of so many players. College football is a business and these players are making business decisions.
