Deion Sanders arrived in Boulder on Sunday, where he was officially announced as Colorado’s next head coach. At Jackson State, Deion Sanders’ annual base salary was $300,000. At Colorado, Deion Sanders’ annual base salary may be north of $5 million.
Colorado athletic director Rick George is more than excited about the program possibly being turned around under Sanders, but he did admit something shocking about signing the NFL hall of famer to a lucrative 5-year contract for $29.5 million
The school actually doesn’t have the money to pay Sanders, but George expects the school “will have it” soon.
In the end, Sanders’s tenure at Jackson State was a huge success, as he led the program to a 27-5 record, including back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference titles and a 12-0 season this year.
His job with the school is not finished as he is expected to stay with Jackson State through the Celebration Bowl on Dec. 17, when the Tigers will face North Carolina Central in Atlanta. After that, Sanders officially will part ways with the school.
He will then take over a Colorado team that has recorded only two winning seasons since 2006.
