Another notable name has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Per Max Olson of The Athletic, Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall is entering the transfer portal. McCall, who turned 22 years of age on Tuesday, just won his third straight Sun Belt Player of the Year Award.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound McCall has played four seasons for Coastal Carolina, and he’s been the primary starter since 2020. That year, McCall completed 68.8 percent of his pass attempts for 2,488 yards, 26 touchdowns and just three interceptions to go along with 569 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
In 2021, McCall completed 73 percent of pass attempts for 2,873 yards, 27 touchdowns, three interceptions, 290 rushing yards and four touchdowns. In 2022, he’s completed 69.1 percent of pass attempts for 2,633 yards, 24 touchdowns, two picks, 183 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
McCall has led the Chanticleers to winning seasons in each of his three years as the starting quarterback. They fell 37-34 to Liberty in the 2020 Cure Bowl but redeemed themselves by defeating Northern Illinois in last year’s Cure Bowl.
The Chanticleers started out 6-0 and won nine of their first 10 games, but they lost their next two games against James Madison and Troy, with the latter coming in the Sun Belt Championship Game. McCall will play his final game for Coastal Carolina when the Chanticleers play East Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl.

Aside from his aforementioned three Sun Belt Player of the Year awards, McCall also won 2020 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year honors. He was named the Cure Bowl MVP in the 2021 game and earned First team All-Sun Belt nods in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
But with McCall about to seek an opportunity elsewhere, Coastal Carolina will have to find a replacement for the school’s all-time passing yards and passing touchdowns leader. Easier said than done, of course.
