College football season has finally come to an end as the Michigan Wolverines took home their first national championship victory in the Jim Harbaugh era. But now it’s time to look forward to next year where the CFP committee will expand from four teams, to twelve. With this change in mind, here are ten teams that are most likely to win the next CFP National Championship.
10. Oregon
The Oregon Ducks added two quarterbacks to their stacked roster this offseason, as former 5-star recruit Dante Moore transferred from UCLA, and Dillon Gabriel transferred Oklahoma. Coach Dan Lanning lead the team to their best record since 2019, and his offense was second in the nation in terms of points scored. Despite a few future NFL players, Oregon really hasn’t changed this offseason, and may finally bring home the school’s first football national championship.
9. Texas
Nothing is confirmed whether or not Quinn Ewers and the rest of the highly talented Texas offense is leaving the team, but in view of the fact that Steve Sarkisian coached the team to their best record in fifteen years the team has nowhere to go but up. The jump from an unranked team in 2022, to finding themselves one play shy of making the national championship is fuel for a young a hungry team.
8. Ohio State
Ohio State landed five-star recruit Air Noland , who was the fourth ranked quarterback prospect in the nation. The Buckeyes running back room just got a serious upgrade with Quinshon Judkins transferring to Ohio State from Ole Miss. The Buckeyes dropped their final game of the regular season against National Champions Michigan, along with their Bowl game against Missouri. The Buckeyes defense was their strong suit in 2023, as they held opponents to an average of 11.2 points per game. Michigan showed us that defense wins championships, and maybe Ohio State can copy that formula.

7. Florida State
Florida State is a hungry team following their playoff snub in 2023. Quarterback Jordan Travis has declared eligible for the NFL Draft, and Florid State has their replacement in former Clemson, and Oregon State Quarterback DJ Uiagaleilei. The team is also receiving four players with a four-star grade or higher via the transfer portal.
6. Arizona
Some readers may be scratching their heads but don’t sleep on the Arizona Wildcats. The team doubled their wins from the previous season in 2023 and recorded their first ten win season since 2014. The Wildcats finished ranked fourteenth in the AP poll. Nothing really jumped out in terms of points allowed or scored, but sophomore quarterback Noah Fifita came out of nowhere to lead the Wildcat offense. Fans can look for him to be in Heisman conversations next season.
5. Missouri
The Missouri Tigers found their way into top ten of the AP poll, and their only two losses came against ranked teams. No stats jump out on paper, but the Missouri offense did score thirty points or more ten times in 2023. The defense allowed 20.8 points per game on average. Missouri is a dark horse team to win the SEC next year, and even make the 12 team playoff.
4. LSU
Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels has declared eligible for the NFL Draft, but Daniel’s backup Garrett Nussmeier has been in early conversations for the Heisman trophy in 2025. Many LSU players are eligible for the draft in 2024, but the Tigers wasted no time replacing them with fourteen four star commits from the 2024 recruiting class alone. This makes LSU’s roster one of the most talented in the SEC.
3. Georgia
Georgia came one game away from making the College football playoffs last season. The Bulldogs are a powerhouse, and can’t be counted out, especially since the team hasn’t finished outside of the top ten since 2016.
2. Alabama
Alabama came two yards short from making the national championship in 2024, and Jalen Milroe showed that he has the ability to make a difference on the ground and through the air. With Nick Saban gone, the greatest coach in college football history it may be a struggle to win. But we still think they got a solid chance.
1. Michigan
Michigan broke a 26-year championship drought with a win over Washington in the 2024 National Championship. They did so with a heavy run game, and suffocating defense, which is uncommon in today’s game. It’s no surprise that the defending national champions are favorites to repeat, but Michigan plays different than any other team in the nation and can be expected to repeat as champions.
