Saturday’s FCS semifinal showdown between South Dakota State and Montana State was delayed for one of the strangest reasons you’ll ever hear.
Per Ethan Stone of Saturday Down South, play between the Jackrabbits and Bobcats was briefly halted in the first quarter because Montana State’s offensive coordinator, State and Montana State was delayed because Montana State offensive coordinator Taylor Housewright, found himself stuck inside an elevator.
Stone added a similar situation occurred during a Virginia Tech-Old Dominion game earlier in the season. In that case, multiple Virginia Tech coaches also caught the bad break of getting suck in the elevator.
South Dakota State easily won the semifinal matchup, dominating the Bobcats by a final score of 39-18. Jackrabbits quarterback Mark Gronowski completed 10 of 13 pass attempts in the game for 189 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Jackrabbits leaned heavily on the rushing game which racked up 281 yards and three touchdowns on 38 carries. Isaiah led the way with 158 rushing yards and one rushing score.
With the victory, South Dakota State improved to 13-1 on the season. They will now get three weeks off before they meet the North Dakota State Bison in the FCS Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 8
It was nice revenge for South Dakota State, who fell 31-17 to the Bobcats in FCS semifinals last season. North Dakota State went on to soundly defeat Montana 38-10 in last season’s FCS Championship Game.
