The ACC and Big 12 collided when the North Carolina Tar Heels and West Virginia Mountaineers squared off in the 2023 Duke’s Mayo Bowl at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
This night would belong to the Mountaineers as they pulled away in the second half to claim a 30-10 victory at Bank of America Stadium, giving West Virginia a nine-win season for the second time since it joined the Big 12 Conference.
After the game, it was time for the moment everybody was waiting for.
West Virginia’s head coach, Neal Brown, received the infamous mayo bath.
West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene threw for 204 yards and a touchdown. He completed 11 of 22 passes and also ran for 75 yards. Jahiem White ran for 50 yards and a touchdown for West Virginia, and Traylon Ray finished with three catches for 91 yards.
North Carolina was forced to play without star quarterback Drake Maye and top wide receiver Tez Walker, who opted out of the game to begin preparing for the NFL draft.

Conner Harrell made his first college start for North Carolina, completing 18 of 27 passes for 199 yards. He also added 37 yards on the ground but was sacked seven times and threw two interceptions.
