A huge brawl broke out Monday in the handshake line between Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Commerce.
Texas A&M-Commerce went on the road and defeated Incarnate Word 76-72 in overtime. Things were far from over as a fight took place as the two teams went through the postgame handshake line.
Video showed players from both teams shaking hands and a disturbance happening right off-camera that forced everybody to the same area. Both teams were throwing punches and landing shots in a fight that started at midcourt near the scorer’s table and made its way to the other side where fans were seated.
Players and coaches from both teams tried to break the skirmish up before it finally ended after nearly 90 seconds.
“A full team fight. Coaches in the middle of it,” one of the ESPN+ broadcasters said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if someone got a nick on the face there.”
“This is not what you want to see after it’s been a great game,” the other added. “We’ve got everything going on right now.
At one point, things got dangerously close to the stands where spectators had still been sitting.

One announcer said during the broadcast that somebody in the crowd had been “hurt and hit” but we are not sure where that moment actually took place. Eventually order was restored and they were able to get both teams into their locker rooms.
It’s unclear what sparked the fight.
The two schools also issued a joint apology: “The unsportsmanlike conduct that occurred after the game does not reflect the values of the universities involved, as well as the Southland Conference and their member institutions.”
Both the schools and the conference say the incident is under review for potential disciplinary action.
