The Clemson Tigers have suspended a player from their football program following his arrest earlier this month.
Defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart was taken into police custody on February 6 and has since been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on school property. He was also charged with “failure to exercise due care” while driving a motor vehicle.
The Clemson Insider is reporting that police found an unloaded gun in Capehart’s trunk that didn’t belong to him while the Associated Press notes that, per court records, he posted a $10,000 bond for the weapon charge and a $232.50 bond for the traffic charge.
The Post and Courier’s Jon Blau reports that the player has been suspended from team activities while investigations continue.
“We have been aware of the facts of the case from the start, and he is not presently participating in team activities while awaiting completion of all legal and university processes,” the Tigers said in a statement.
Capehart has played 34 games as a reserve for the Tigers, making 15 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble last season.
