Chip Kelly was looked at as a head coach who would’ve been fired, but the UCLA Bruins elected to keep him on. He decided to leave anyway.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are hiring UCLA head coach Chip Kelly as their offensive coordinator after Bill O’Brien left for Boston College.
The news comes just hours after it was reported that O’Brien would be leaving the Buckeyes to accept the head coaching job with the Boston College Eagles on Friday morning.
Kelly will be expected to take over playcalling duties from Day, who will be giving that responsibility up for the first time in his head coaching career.
Chip Kelly and UCLA went a combined 25-13 over the last three seasons, one of the program’s most successful runs in recent memory.
Kelly inherited a losing product and he turned that around, which is why last March he earned a contract extension through 2027.

It makes you wonder why Kelly so actively pursued other jobs this offseason, including interviewing to become the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator on the eve of National Signing Day. Kelly clearly wanted out and he got his wish.
