The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga made a quick and necessary decision to fire offensive line coach Chris Malone on Thursday after he posted a racist tweet directed toward political activist and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate for the Democratic Party Stacey Abrams.
In a tweet that has since been deleted, Malone referred to Abrams as “Fat Albert” in a reference to a Black, male cartoon character. He then went on to accuse her of cheating in an election.”
Chattanooga athletic director Mark Wharton and head coach Rusty Wright released the following statements:
It was on Tuesday night when Democrats won both Senate elections, with Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff beating sitting senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue for the pair of seats.
Before his coaching career, Malone was a four-year starter at offensive guard at Virginia Tech in the 1990s.
