The College Football Players Association (CFBPA) is planning a boycott of the inbound EA Sports College Football game over the insulting pay for the athletes involved.
Said publishers are set to relaunch their college football series this year, promising that players who permit usage of their names and likenesses will be compensated.
You’d think that with NIL now a thing, players would stand to make significant bank as the game is very likely to be wildly successful, given that people have been calling for its return since EA stopped developing college football games in 2013. But, according to both ON3 and Sportico, the cash pool is around $5 million, which would mean around $500 per player, even more surprising is the claim stating that players will not earn any royalties.
The CFBPA is now calling on athletes to boycott the game, accusing EA of exploiting them.
“All current players should boycott this deal… It is just a ridiculously low amount of money,” vice president Justin Falcinelli told On3.
Falcinelli also pointed out that NFL players get paid an average of $17,000 to appear in EA’s Madden games, revealing one player told him they got $28,000 for the upcoming Madden 24.

“[College players] should not participate in this,” he added. “It is a simple cash grab to just try to get you for the lowest amount possible. And it’s OneTeam Partners and all these organizations that don’t really represent the players’ best interest.”
No date has been announced for the launch of the highly-anticipated college football title, but it’s expected to drop sometime in 2024.
