The NCAA’s women are in action too, with March Madness now well underway. And the Cavinder Twins are headed to the Sweet 16 with Miami after their massive upset win on Monday night.
Haley and Hanna Cavinder helped the ninth-seeded Hurricanes to a 70-68 win over top-seed Indiana, combining for 12 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists. Hanna was also responsible for a key three-pointer down the stretch.
The occasion was a momentous one for the University of Miami, especially as the victory was nearly as marginal as it gets. As expected, the scenes were wild in the locker room and the sisters let fans in on the celebrations with a TikTok video.
Hanna did the recording all wet, with water being flung everywhere while the players danced about the facility. The video, posted with a voiceover of Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, could be seen right below.
The win is historic for the Hurricanes as their upcoming Sweet 16 appearance will only be their second. The women’s program hadn’t progressed to the second round since 1992, so it’s likely they’ve gotten very little sleep this week.
Now, they will hope to progress to the Elite 8 with a win against the fourth-seeded Villanova when they play them in Greenville this Friday.
