Like any season, there are experts who put out their predictions on who they think will end up winning certain awards and the 2023 college season is no different.
The 2023 college football season is on the horizon. That means another year of tailgating, College Football Playoff debate, band formations, and college football national championship odds. Betting on the potential winner of the Heisman Trophy before the season starts is a decision that could prove to be among the most profitable you can make if things go your way.
To help in that matter, ESPN has named their favorite to win it all.
The World Wide Leader in Sports has dubbed USC Caleb Williams as the favorite for the award again.
“With a supporting cast that should be markedly better in QB whisperer Lincoln Riley’s second season as coach, Williams has a chance to post much better stats than even his already Heisman-worthy 4,537 yards and 52 TDs of one year ago,” ESPN wrote.
Williams got awarded 74 points by ESPN and has +500 odds of winning the award again.
It’s very difficult to win back-to-back Heisman Trophies. Heisman favorites and past winners alike enter fresh college football seasons with sky-high expectations, and it’s nearly impossible to deliver. Archie Griffin is the only player to have ever lifted the award twice back in 1974-1975, meaning that a repeat win would be quite the historic feat.

For Williams to win it, he will have to put up similar or even better numbers than the season before.
Williams threw for 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns, while adding 10 more scores on the ground en route to capturing the Heisman Trophy.
He also led USC to an 11-3 record in 2022 and almost had the program in the College Football Playoff.
