Bronny James began following his father’s footsteps long ago when he decided to pursue a career in basketball. He’s taking it a step further with his jersey number choice.
On Thursday, the USC Trojans’ men’s basketball team announced that Bronny will be wearing the No. 6, the same digit that LeBron James wears for the Los Angeles Lakers. Check out the first look of James in his new uniform:
LeBron previously wore the No. 23 for the Lakers from 2018-19 to 2020-21, but he switched to No. 6 ahead of the 2021-22 campaign. In both his stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the four-time NBA Champion wore the No. 23.
James wore the No. 6 during his four-year run with the Miami Heat (2010-11 to 2013-14), helping the franchise to four NBA Finals appearances and two championships (2012 and 2013) during that span.
Bronny, who turns 19 years of age in October, attends Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles. The 2023 McDonald’s All-American senior announced last month that he was committing to the Trojans’ program. The Trojans are coached by Andy Enfield.
Bronny will be eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft. Many scouts project him to be a top-10 or mid-first round draft selection. LeBron previously expressed that he will play his final NBA season with his son, so that could definitely influence where Bronny goes in next year’s draft.
