Bronny James, the star freshman at USC, has attracted significant attention for a variety of reasons.
That attention will have to wait when it comes to his first played game with USC.
USC head coach Andy Enfield revealed freshman guard Bronny James will not play in the Trojans’ opener against Kansas State on Monday.
“He’s doing well,” Enfield said recently. “I think at the appropriate time the James family will give further updates. As LeBron stated last week at media day, things were progressing, and under any medical condition, we respect the privacy of the young man. But I think everybody is very supportive and hoping he gets back quickly.”
There’s no timetable for his return.

A 5-star recruit in the 2023 class, Bronny James underwent surgery this offseason after suffering cardiac arrest during a workout in the summer, but he still intends to play for the Trojans during the 2023-24 season.
LeBron said his son Bronny will play this season, his first with USC.
“Bronny is doing extremely well,” James said during the NBA’s media day last month. “He has begun his rehab process to get back on the floor this season with his teammates and USC.”
James is among the headliners of USC’s elite 2023 signing class and was a four-star recruit, ranked as the 27th-best player nationally.
James could continue to improve his stock at USC and likely become a lottery pick if he decides to spend just one season with the program.
