Sports fans offered prayers and messages of support for new USC Trojan Bronny James following an update on the cardiac arrest scare he experienced last month.
On July 24, the 18-year-old James collapsed on the court during a team practice at USC’s Galen Center. It was later announced that he had suffered cardiac arrest, and James spent three days in the hospital before being released on July 27.
In a statement shared by a spokesperson for James’ family, it was noted that doctors discovered the cardiac arrest episode to have been brought on by “Congenital Heart Defect.” James’ family also expects him to recover fully and to return to the court “in the very near future.”
Following the announcement, fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) offered prayers and other kind messages for the 18-year-old basketball phenom.

Bronny is the oldest child of LeBron and Savannah James. LeBron, who will be 39 years of age in December, is about to enter his sixth season with the Los Angeles Lakers. The four-time NBA Champion has expressed a desire to play on the same team as his son one day.
Last season, James led the seventh-seeded Lakers to a surprise Western Conference Finals appearance. There, however, they were swept by the eventual NBA Champion Denver Nuggets.
The younger James is widely projected to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. His highly-anticipated NCAA debut will take place on Nov. 6, when the Trojans welcome the Kansas State Wildcats.
