The No. 9 ranked Notre Dame fighting Irish squandered an 18-point lead in regulation, but a missed field goal by FSU opened the door for the road team to hit a clutch field goal of their own to win the game, 41-38.
Quarterback Jack Coan had a historic first start for the Irish, setting program records for passing yards (366) and tying the program record for touchdowns (4) in a season-opening game.
Up next, the Irish will return home for their home opener against Toledo.
