The Boston College Eagles are reportedly set to hire a former NFL head coach and longtime Bill Belichick assistant for their HC vacancy.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Boston College is closing in on a deal with Bill O’Brien that will make him the school’s next head coach. O’Brien left the New England Patriots last month to accept the Ohio State Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator position.
The 54-year-old O’Brien was previously the head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions (2012 to 2013) and the NFL’s Houston Texans (2014 to 2020). In Houston, O’Brien compiled a 52-48-0 record and led the Texans to four postseason appearances, though they won only two playoff games under his watch.
Boston College’s head coach position unexpectedly opened up when Jeff Hafley left to take the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator role. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur parted ways with Joe Barry after the season and pivoted to bring in Hafley.
