The Arch Manning Sweepstakes is finally over. The 5-star quarterback recruit and nephew of NFL greats Peyton and Eli Manning announced today that he will be attending the University of Texas to play for the Longhorns once he graduates from High School.
A member of the class of 2023, all eyes were on Manning for the past couple of years, as suitors lined up in an effort to secure his commitment. There were several big programs that were said to be at the top of his list, including the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs. But in the end, Arch decided to join Steve Sarkisian’s club down in Austin.
The Longhorns haven’t won a national title since 2005, when Vince Young led them to a 13-0 record. It was a rather interesting choice from Arch, whom many thought would opt to play in the much more competitive SEC, as opposed to the Big 12.
Texas, of course, is set to join the Southeastern Conference, but that’s not until 2025—two years into Manning’s college career.
Arch is the first five-star recruit from the 2023 class to commit to Texas. The program has also received hard commits from five other four-star players, and two three-star athletes.
Texas’ recruiting class for 2023 currently ranks seventh in the nation, according to on3.com, behind the likes of Ohio State, Notre Dame, Georgia, USC, Clemson and Alabama. The only programs with more five-star commits are the Buckeyes and the Trojans, who each have two apiece.
