While four teams are celebrating the opportunity to play for a national title on the field, undefeated ACC champion Florida State is not happy as they became the first unbeaten Power 5 conference winner to ever miss out on the College Football Playoff.
Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama were selected by the committee to compete for the CFP National Championship. Florida State and Georgia were on the outside looking in despite the Seminoles being an undefeated Power-Five conference champion.
ESPN’s Booger McFarland was not happy and he did not mince a single word.
“This is a complete travesty to the sport because we go out there on the field and we play the game,” McFarland said. “Regardless of whether we win with offense or defense, the name of the game is to win. That’s the reason why this has never neem done before. I understand the style points and best matchups, but one team (Alabama) has a loss and one doesn’t (Florida State).”
ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit, meanwhile, doesn’t seem to agree.
“That undefeated thing it’s a bunch of BS. Undefeated, to me, means nothing,” Herbstreit said. “I know winning matters but are they, right now, without Jordan Travis, one of the best four teams?
“I’ve called a lot of these semifinal games and they average 19 points [margin of victory] because we do what’s the right thing? We need to put the right thing to the side and put the best teams in there.”

FSU won the ACC title and didn’t lose a game all season, even after it lost its starting quarterback to an injury.
Many experts think the loss of their quarterback drastically hurt them no matter how their season ended up.
While Michigan (13-0, Big Ten champion), Washington (13-0, Pac-12 champion), Texas (12-1, Big 12 champion) and Alabama (12-1, SEC champion) were the top four teams who made it into the playoff, the Seminoles were put at the No. 5 seed and will face the two-time defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl.
