Another Big Ten program has reportedly emerged as a leader in the sweepstakes for Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord.
The QB decided to throw his name into the portal on the back of the 2023 regular season but could remain in said conference as ESPN’s Pete Thamel has made claims of Nebraska being the favorite to land him.
“In the past 24 hours, Nebraska has surged ahead as the leader there,” Thamel said during this Saturday’s episode of ‘College GameDay’ (H/T TheSpun.com). “That’s where McCord could end up.”
Should the Cornhuskers sign McCord from the portal, it would be left to assume that they forked out a huge number as head coach Matt Rhule recently admitted that a good QB transfer would cost at least $1 million.
“Make no mistake: a good quarterback in the portal costs $1 million to $1.5 million to $2 million right now,” Rhule was quoted as saying recently. “So just so we’re on the same page, right? Let’s make sure we all understand what’s happening. There are some teams that have $6-7 million players playing for them.”
While McCord isn’t thought to be elite, he is one of the best QBs available at the moment and there are plenty of schools that would do well to land him. We’ll just have to wait and see where he ends up, though many reckon he’s already set for Nebraska.
