The Big Ten is planning to come down hard on Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the conference “is expected” to punish the school for the team’s sign-stealing scandal and in-person scouting violations.
Per Thamel, the punishment will include Harbaugh being banned from the sidelines until the end of the regular season, though he’ll be allowed to coach the Wolverines during the week. The Wolverines wrap up their regular season against No. 1 ranked Ohio State on Nov. 25.
Once the punishment is formally announced and implemented, the Wolverines will likely name an acting head coach during Harbaugh’s sideline ban. The No. 3 ranked and undefeated Wolverines will visit the No. 10 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday (12:00 p.m. EST).
After visiting Penn State, the Wolverines will travel east for their penultimate regular season game against the Maryland Terrapins. They will then come back home to play their archrivals in a game that will carry significant implications on the top 25 rankings.
The Wolverines’ sign-stealing allegations date back to the 2021 season. Wolverines analyst Connor Stalions, the alleged centerpiece of the scandal, resigned from the university last week.
