Caitlyn Jenner has been the center of controversy for the past week after she opposes transgender girls competing in girls’ sports at school. Jenner, a 1976 decathlon gold medalist who came out as a transgender woman in 2015, told a TMZ reporter that it’s “a question of fairness.”
“That’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school. It just isn’t fair. And we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools,” Jenner said Saturday.
Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Jenner about the topic during a Wednesday night interview and she basically ducked the question, “I don’t know why they keep asking me that question.”
“I stick with my statements that I made,” Jenner said. “I think we have to make sure that the integrity of girls’ sports is there. I think that’s extremely important.”
Jenner added that transgender youth are nine times more likely to attempt suicide than cisgender youth while stating she wants to be a role model for transgender youth.
Jenner came out as transgender in 2015. That was the same year she also supported transgender athletes playing in sports teams matching their gender identity.

During her 2015 ESPY acceptance speech for the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, Jenner said, “I also want to acknowledge all the young trans athletes who are out there—given the chance to play sports as who they really are.”
