It is not often that we come across a brawl in the WNBA.
Last night in the fourth quarter, six players saw their night end prematurely during a matchup between the Phoenix Mercury and Dallas Wings. It began after Brittney Griner and Kristine Anigwe locked arms and Griner ended up taking a shot to the face.
She immediately took off after Anigwe and throwing punches before she started back-pedaling away from her.
Kayla Thornton, Kaela Davis, and Kristine Anigwe would be ejectd from the Dallas Wings, while Griner, Diana Taurasi, and Briann January were the Mercury players sent to the showers early.
“Today I went on the court to make sure my teammate didn’t get jumped,” Taurasi said. “(Griner) got punched in the face and then someone ran on her back and threw punches at her face. I would do that 100 times out of 100 times.”
The Wings ended up winning the game 80-77.
