How does this keep happening?
Just last season, Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos hit a home run at the worst time as the team’s former announcer Thom Brennaman was delivering an on-air apology for using a homophobic slur on a hot mic.
That awkward apology has become an epic meme, and now we have yet another instance of it happening.
Washington Wild Things play-by-play announcer Kyle Dawson was in the midst of remembering his late uncle Charles on air as he soon realized his comments were extending into the inning. That led to the below remark.
“This is going to take longer than I intended it to, but that’s OK. Just gonna give you the visuals and hope we don’t get Nick Castellanos’d. And somebody hits a home run to tie the game right now.”
That is exactly what happened on the very next pitch.

Dawson reacted, “Of course. My goodness.”
