Dave Portnoy is a few million richer following a very successful wager he’s branded “the greatest bet of my life.”
The Barstool Sports founder and owner will be laughing all the way to the bank as he’s won a massive chunk thanks to UConn winning a second successive national title.
The Huskies put on another dominant performance in the NCAA Tournament that saw them overpower Purdue en route to a 75-60 win at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Monday night. The victory makes them the first repeat champions since the Florida Gators won back-to-back in 2006 and 2007.
Portnoy backed the Huskies to go all the way again this year, having shown off his slip before the beginning of the tournament. The Barstool owner put $600,000 on the line, taking on the +360 odds, and has come out looking like a genius as he’s won a cool $2.7 million.

“The greatest bet of my life,” he tweeted after the win on Monday night. “Thank you #uconn Destroyed [sic] everybody and everything in their path. They’d win the tournament 100 out of 100 times. The biggest win of my life by a mile.”

Dave Portnoy Wasn’t Fooling Around On Monday
Dave Portnoy also posted a video of himself watching the game with some of his Barstool staffers, and the look on his face said it all.
As for the game, the teams stayed close in the early going and neither would go ahead by more than three points over the first 15 minutes. But the Huskies went to work in the second half and would lead by as much as 18 at one point.
While Portnoy is already a very wealthy businessman who could have afforded to bet over half a million on a college basketball game, he will be very pleased with himself after watching UConn go back-to-back.
