Sometimes it’s the negative stories in the sports world that get all the attention. That’s just the nature of the business. That being said, it’s always nice to see a story like this pop up on your timeline every once in a while.
It takes place at Auburn University, where walk-on running back Sean Jackson was awarded a scholarship on Saturday by his coaches as a result of all the hard work and effort he’s put into his craft over the past year. Jackson joined the Tigers’ program as a preferred walk-on in 2021 after turning down a scholarship offer from UAB. The Alabama native only played four games last season, recording 38 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
With injuries and other things causing vacancies in the Auburn backfield this spring, Jackson has been given the opportunity to run with the second-team offense. And apparently he’s done enough with that opportunity to convince his coaches that he can be an important part of this team’s future, thus making him worth of a scholarship.
It’s a great story for Jackson, but that’s not even the best part. On Saturday, the 5’10” running back FaceTimed his mother to tell her the good news. The entire interaction was caught on camera, which is a good thing, because Jackson’s mother’s reaction was absolutely priceless.

That’s one proud mamma right there. And she should be! After all, her son’s hard work just earned him a scholarship to one of the biggest football programs in the nation. Safe to say, she raised quite the young man.
