The college football world is praying for Auburn running back Brian Battie after reports revealed he was among those who were hit during a fatal shooting in Sarasota, Florida.
The shooting reportedly took place Saturday morning. Brian’s brother, Tommie L. Battie IV, was pronounced dead at the scene, while four people were taken to the hospital as a result of their injuries.
While it has not been confirmed, some have since reported that Brian Battie was shot in the head, leaving him in critical condition. Again, this report has not yet been confirmed by any major news outlets.
An Auburn spokesperson released the following statement to AL.com: “We are aware of the situation and are continuing to gather information.”
The shooting took place at roughly 3:30 am Saturday morning, at the Tallywood Centre Plaza. No word on whether any arrests have been made. Police have yet to release a name of the suspect or a motive.

Brian Battie Was Expected To Be A Big Part Of Auburn’s Gameplan In 2024
Battie joined the Auburn Tigers last season, after transferring from South Florida. He had 51 carries for 227 yards, adding another 7 catches for 52 yards. He made his biggest mark as a kick returner, averaging an impressive 23.04 yards per return.
Brian Battie was expected to serve in the same role on special teams in 2024 while also contributing more as a runner and receiver in the backfield. He had originally entered the transfer portal heading into the offseason but decided to stick around for one more season.
Our thoughts and prayers go out Brian Battie.
