Did Arizona State staffers really dislike Herm Edwards this much?
Apparently, ASU staffers were leaking information to opponents to get Herm Edwards fired.
Edwards entered the 2022 season already on the hot seat as the former NFL head coach was unable to lead the type of turnaround Arizona State had hoped for when he was hired in 2017.
The Athletic’s Doug Haller published a deep dive into Herm’s tenure at ASU and found out that athletic department staffers were willing to share their game plans with opposing coaches to make it seem as if Edwards was in over his head. Per The Atheltic’s Doug Haller, getting intel on the Sun Devils’ game plan “wasn’t hard” as the staff had checked out on Edwards running the show.
Following an embarrassing 30-21 loss to Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Arizona State announced that the school was making “a change in leadership” by “mutually agreeing” to part ways with Edwards. The 68-year-old finished his time with a 26-20 overall record with Sun Devils, never winning more than 8 games in a season.
