If Arch Manning puts his name in the transfer portal, a destination may have opened up for him.
Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord is entering the transfer portal in a surprising decision that came a day after Ohio State found out it would play in the Cotton Bowl against Missouri after finishing at No. 7 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
It also comes a day after coach Ryan Day was asked about the team’s starting quarterback job for next season and didn’t say unequivocally that McCord was the team’s starting quarterback heading into the 2024 season.
Eleven Warriors reported on Monday that Day is considering bringing in a transfer quarterback.
“A source told Eleven Warriors that Ohio State is considering the addition of a transfer quarterback. Asked Sunday whether the Buckeyes would pursue a transfer quarterback, Day didn’t say Ohio State would, but he didn’t rule out the possibility, either,” they reported.
That has led to rumors of Arch Manning, who is coming off a season where he saw limited time on the field as Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was the main guy. Also, he might also return for yet another season.

McCord threw for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns during his first full season starting for the Buckeyes. He led coach Ryan Day’s squad to an 11-0 record before falling to rival Michigan in the regular-season finale.
The sophomore threw two interceptions against Michigan in the Buckeyes’ final game of the regular season. He was 18-of-30 passing for 271 yards and also threw two TDs.
Manning made his Texas debut in the regular-season finale against Texas Tech, completing 2 of 5 passes for 30 yards and rushing for seven yards in the 57-7 win. Manning signed with the Longhorns in 2023 out of New Orleans, Louisiana’s Isidore Newman High School.
If he wants to see more action in 2024, he’ll likely have to leave.
