While he continues to anxiously await playing time in the NCAA, Arch Manning is still happy with his decision on choosing the Texas Longhorns’ football program.
That’s according to Arch’s grandfather, former NFL quarterback Archie Manning.
Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers missed the club’s last two games recovering from a shoulder injury. Instead of giving Arch a look, the Longhorns went with second-stringer Maalik Murphy, who won both of his starts.
During an interview with The Spun, the elder Manning emphasized that Arch doesn’t have any regrets about joining Texas: Archie went on to explain that he thinks his grandson is in the proper situation as a redshirt:
“Every situation is different. If you remember, Peyton and Eli went to school early for spring training. Peyton got thrown in for his first game as a freshman. He played a great deal that season. Tennessee had a great offensive line and two really good running backs, so that allowed him to work into it.
Eli had what I think is the best course. He redshirt his first year, was a backup in his second year, and then started in his third year. I think it’s a big jump. Arch played 2A Football, as did Peyton and Eli. Every situation is different.
I think the most unfortunate thing was that Quinn Ewers got hurt. He was having a great year. I think Maalik (Murphy) has done some great things filling in. Arch is happy with the decision he made. All the reports we get is that he’s doing well. He’s going to get a redshirt out of this year, and I think that’s important.”
The 18-year-old is the son of Cooper Manning, the eldest of Archie’s three children. Cooper’s younger brothers, Eli and Peyton Manning, are retired NFL quarterbacks who each won two Super Bowl rings.

While many fans remain anxious to see Arch for the first time, the Longhorns have good reason to stay patient with his development. Having two quality starters above Arch on the depth chart is nothing to complain about, after all.
