College referees have found themselves in the thick of the action this season. One official trucked a player to the ground a few weeks ago, leveling him while trying to get out of the way on a rushing play.
But one of the refs taking charge of Tuesday night’s wild showdown between Middle Tennessee State and Liberty was not so sturdy as he ended up being floored after taking some contact.
The game was a high-scoring affair, with the Flames beating the Blue Raiders 42-35. And things got pretty intense when two players went for each other after a punt rolled down the field, with one player grabbed as his opponents tried to force him to touch the football.
An official tried to step in and quell the scuffle but got knocked to the ground and lost his headgear. He got up in a furious rage and looked like he was about to hit somebody but would only stare down the player who hit him before things calmed down.

Fortunately for all involved, the heat subsided after the official got up. We don’t want to think about what would have happened had he decided to retaliate after getting bowled over.
