One of the most stunning developments of the 2023-24 NCAA football transfer portal transpired on Thursday afternoon.
Per a report from On3.com, Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks is headed to the transfer portal. The timing of this news is also interesting, with the Crimson Tide set to play No. 1 ranked Michigan in the College Football Playoff on Jan. 1.
Brooks had a limited role on the 2021 Alabama squad that was led by Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, recording 15 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns. The Crimson Tide lost to the Georgia Bulldogs in the national championship game.
The 22-year-old emerged as a key playmaker on Alabama last year, racking up 39 receptions for 674 yards and eight touchdowns.
Unfortunately, a series of injuries and a reduced role in the offense have prevented Brooks from regaining that star-like form. In three game appearances this season, he has three receptions for 30 yards.
Given all the star power on Alabama’s offense, it’s clear that Brooks faces a difficult task of repeating his 2022 success with the Crimson Tide next year. A change of scenery is clearly the best bet for Brooks, who should flourish with a new team if he gets an expanded role.
