Cooper Lee, an Alabama basketball team manager, recently revealed to The New York Times that he, and not freshman player Kai Spears, was in Brandon Miller’s car at the time of the January 15th deadly shooting that killed 23-year-old Jamea Harris.

“I can confirm that I was the passenger in Brandon Miller’s car at the time of the shooting,” Lee told the Times.
“I have one thing to say – the report in the New York Times was 100% inaccurate and the writer had complete disregard for the truth,” Spears said in an Instagram post at the time. “I am trying to process and cope with these false statements that somehow have been and then seen by so many. So thankful to Alabama Athletics for refuting it on my behalf.”
On Friday, the Times acknowledged its error and reported that Lee was named in Spears’ lawsuit.
NYT spokesperson Danielle Rhoades said that the paper got it wrong and would issue a correction.

Former Alabama forward Darius Miles was indicted on capital murder charges, along with friend Michael Lynn Davis.
Police testified Miller brought the gun used in the shooting after Miles contacted him and asked him to do so. Neither Lee or Miller are accused of wrongdoing.
In the meantime, Brandon Miller wants to be the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NBA draft as his camp is hoping to “convince the Hornets to give him assurances” they will take him with their top pick after he visits Charlotte on June 10.
Miller started all 37 games for the Crimson Tide last season. He was a 5-star recruit and the No. 14 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.
He will find out his next destination at the 2023 Draft on June 22 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
