The Alabama Crimson Tide have upset Michigan Wolverines fans this week.
Former Michigan linebackers coach George Helow has been hired by Alabama and is expected to begin work immediately, according to Bruce Feldman and Kennington Smith III of The Athletic.
This comes a few weeks before the two teams square off in the Rose Bowl.
The Wolverines and the Crimson Tide are set for a College Football Playoff matchup on January 1st.
Of all people for Alabama to hire, head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide just had to snatch up someone with recent ties to Michigan and their defensive schematics.

Helow broke into coaching during the 2012 season at Alabama as a defensive intern on Nick Saban’s staff.
He spent the 2021-22 seasons on the Wolverines staff. He was on a staff that won back-to-back Big Ten championships and had consecutive playoff appearances. Helow did not coach this season, until Alabama scooped him up on Thursday.
Helow served as Michigan’s linebackers coach throughout the 2021 and 2022 seasons before he and the school “mutually agreed” to part ways in Feb. 2023.
