The college football universe shook to its core with the shocking news that longtime Alabama head football coach Nick Saban was retiring.
The 72-year-old is arguably the greatest college football head coach of all time as he won seven national titles throughout his career and amassed a 292-71-1 in 28 seasons and capturing 12 conference titles.
So now the biggest question becomes where does the nation’s top powerhouse of the past two decades turn from here?
According to the latest intel from Football Scoop, three men have “emerged as serious contenders” and “earned” interviews for the position. Those men are Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell, and Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.
Football Scoop also added Maryland’s Mike Locksley, a former ‘Bama assistant, and Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz have gained “some measure of traction.”
This is without question the most high-profile job in college football in years, and the candidate list should be as strong as any given the type of job Nick Saban did during his time there.

Getting hired immediately after Saban will put instant pressure on the next head coach. Expectations are sky-high at Alabama. This will be Alabama’s first time entering the head coaching carousel since 2007.
Nobody coming in will ever do what he did for Bama, but just maybe he can keep the program afloat and competitive year in and year out.
