Last year, college football recruiting changed forever when the doors were opened for players to start cashing in on NIL deals. One year later, the entire game is changing once again thanks to a record-breaking NIL deal signed by a 2023 recruit.
According to The Athletic, the five-star recruit signed the deal on Friday, which can earn him up to $8-million. In exchange for the money, the recruit will be expected to make public appearances and engage is promotions on social media.

The agreement, signed with an undisclosed school’s NIL collective, will pay out $350,000 “almost immediately” to the high schooler who is finishing out his junior year. From there, once he begins his career with the agreed upon school, he will receive more than $2 million per year as a freshman, sophomore and junior — and if he chooses to stay for his fourth year of eligibility.
In the end, the recruit has the opportunity to make well over $8-million if they remain at the agreed upon college up until their senior year and take part in all of the required activities. At that rate, the player could pretty much retire after college, without even having to play a single game at the professional level, in order to support himself and a family for the rest of his life.
At the moment, the recruit and school is not yet known.
Once more information is made available, it’s very likely that more deals like this are made, as it looks like a new benchmark has been set.
