Rumors of Bronny James entering the transfer portal have been circulating the internet as the 2024 Men’s basketball season comes to a close. James was one of the most sought-after players in the 2023 recruiting class and is expected to be great given his namesake and impact on the court.
Here are five schools Bronny James should transfer to, and five he should stay away from.
Lets take a look at where Bronny James should and shouldn’t transfer to
Transfer to: Oregon
The University of Oregon was one of the schools that was high on Bronny James’ list upon committing to USC. The Ducks had a good season this year, winning the Pac-12 tournament and making the big dance. Oregon has a reputation as a gritty, tough team, and with three senior guards at the end of the 2024 season, there will be a spot waiting for Bronny James on the Oregon Roster.
Stay away from: Washington State
Talk about a fall from grace. The WSU Cougars made their first tournament since 2008, then upon a loss in the round of 32 lost their head coach to Stanford, and essentially every player on the roster hit the transfer portal. In addition, the school’s athletic director accepted a job across the mountains with the University of Washington. It isn’t just the team that is rebuilding, but the whole athletic department.
Transfer to: Penn State

Penn State has been listed as a potential landing spot for Bronny James. Penn State had a losing record in 2023-2024 and did not have any eye-popping players in the past few seasons. However, this could be a huge chance for James to be the brightest spot on a roster that needs some love. This could be great to increase his draft stock for when he plans to enter the NBA.

Stay Away from: Creighton
Creighton made another NCAA Tournament on the heels of another great season by head coach Greg McDermott. The Creighton Bluejays’ season ended with a heartbreaking loss to second-seeded Tennessee in the Midwest Regional Semifinal. Despite the recent success, Creighton would not be a good fit for Bronny James. The Bluejays’ offense tends to make it rain from the three-point line, and James has struggled as a consistent three-point shooter. On defense, Creighton has performed well, so there is no need to add James to bolster that aspect.
Transfer to: Arizona
The Arizona Wildcats ended the 2023-2024 season with six seniors on the roster, three of which are guards. Arizona has produced some of the best guards in recent NCAA memory, the most recent of which being Caleb Love. With such success at the guard position, Arizona could be a nice fit for Bronny James.
Stay away from: Gonzaga
The Bulldogs made the NCAA Tournament yet again thanks to a serious rally. In the second half of the season. The Zags showed their resilience this season and are looking to make a deeper run in the big dance in 2025. Thankfully for the Bulldogs, they have a very young roster, consisting mostly of underclassmen. With Anton Watson listed as the lone senior on the Bulldogs’ roster, this team needs to connect with each other and continue to develop instead of adding a player like Bronny James that brings a lot of attention.
Transfer to: Alabama
The SEC isn’t safe from the Alabama Crimson Tide. Both Football and Men’s Basketball made the final four in the same academic year; the student section must be loving it! Adding Bronny James to the Alabama roster will give him the chance to compete against SEC opponents and continue to develop against topo competition. In addition, Alabama needs a guy who sees the court the way James does, and with a high basketball IQ. James could be a valuable acquisition to the team.
Stay away from: UConn
This is going to be very blunt, but Uconn didn’t offer Bronny James anything as a high school recruit, so why should they offer him a spot on the team now? When you are as dominant at basketball as the Uconn Huskies are, you can afford to be picky with your recruits. James is just not what the team is looking for in a player.
Transfer to: Houston
The University of Houston was a dominant team during the 2023-2024 season but will be losing a key player in Jamal Shead. Shead was a Guard for the Cougars, who had the best defense in the NCAA this season. Bronny James is known as a defensive player and would be a great young fit to replace Shead. Even though James is not nearly as skilled as Shead when it comes to scoring, he will be a great defensive player even if he is a rotational player like he is now with USC.
Stay away from: Clemson
Clemson went on a Cinderella run this March Madness tournament and nobody expected them to be so good. Some are calling it a fluke, which it very well may be. The roster is aging, with six seniors. The 2024-2025 season will feature new faces on a Tigers team who already play in a stacked ACC conference. While Bronny James would stand a chance against ACC talent, his team may not, and this would not be a good experience for Bronny to play at Clemson.
