A former Georgia football player is dealing with unspeakable tragedy this week following the death of his 10-year-old son. Walker Phillips, the son of former Bulldogs quarterback Cory Phillips, died in a house fire in Cartersville while his parents were away on a ski trip.
Phillips’ three children were staying with a grandparent when the home was engulfed in flames. The other two kids were reportedly unharmed, authorities say.
Phillips’ wife, Courtney, is a former gymnast at Georgia.
Walker’s 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Julia Bare, released a statement on the tragic evnt:
“Walker is a leader in our classroom, especially among the boys,” she wrote to 11Alive in an email. “He’s just a great role model. A phenomenal athlete, he always makes sure that everyone is included during recess and P.E., regardless of their own abilities. He was always looking out for the underdog.”
