The Lakers recently defeated the New Orleans Pelicans in a blowout victory. They will be facing them again as their first opponents in the Play-In Tournament. Mike Greenberg from ESPN recently suggested the Lakers take a risk and intentionally lose the upcoming game.
As per the matchups, the winner of the 8th seed game will go on to face the Oklahoma City Thunder. Likewise, the winner of the 7th seed game will go on to face the mighty Denver Nuggets. Greenberg pointed out this exact matchup and suggested that the Purple and Gold should not think of winning against the Pelicans.

“The Lakers should not play tomorrow night. They should not play LeBron, they should not play AD (Anthony Davis). They do not want to be 7-seed. You want to be the 8. I am taking my chances in a one-and-done at home against either Sacramento (Kings) or Golden State (Warriors) and then going to win against a very young OKC Thunder in round one instead of going to the buzzsaw that is Denver (Nuggets). I think it is worth the risk,” said Greenberg on Get Up ESPN.
He highlighted that the Lakers are not competent enough to beat the Nuggets this season. So, he suggested that they should take a risk and avoid the behemoths at any cost. Greenberg has a point but his strategy is very risky. If the Lakers lose at any point in the process of matching up with OKC they will be going home. Only time will tell what approach the head coach of the Lakers Darwin Ham will take going against the Pelicans on Tuesday night.
