Austin Rivers surrounded himself with sharp criticisms after his recent comment on “The Pat McAfee Show” regarding two of the most significant leagues in the USA, the NFL and NBA, went viral. During a debate on the show, the former NBA guard stated that 30 players from the NBA can move to the NFL and succeed, but not contrariwise. This ignited notable NFL figures besides the fans, and they didn’t hold themselves back from reacting to Rivers’ take on the matter.
After former NFL stars JJ Watt and Randy Moss, former Packers wide receiver James Jones brutally taunted Rivers on Thursday’s episode of FS1’s “Speak”. Jones called out the NBA for starting the trend of resting games as they are “soft.” The Green Bay Packers star believes that an NBA player like Anthony Edwards could potentially play safety, but Jones dismissed the idea of 30 NBA players fitting in football.
“Austin Rivers, if you stepped on a football field homeboy, you wouldn’t make it. We know that right now. Because you barely made it in the NBA,” Jones added. This was too much for Rivers to tolerate, so he clapped back at the 40-year-old.
Austin Rivers Responds to James Jones
A furious Austin Rivers lashed out at James Jones on X (formerly known as Twitter) for his remark on his career in the league. Calling him a “little meat head”, Rivers mentioned that he had never heard of Jones. The 31-year-old wrote, “Talking about “you barely made it in the nba”…bro I was lottery pick who has already played 11 years. You played 8/9 seasons in the NFL. Make it make sense. By your own logic you really barely made it.”
Jones was in no mood to let that one slip as he showed off his shiny Super Bowl championship title that is attached to his name and the former NFL player asked if Rivers had any such accolade. Then he concluded by saying, “I’ll imma say if you 6-4, 200, maybe you should’ve tried football. You might’ve had a better career, homeboy. Basketball was not your career from what I’m reading right here.”

Rivers regrets belittling the football league for which he is being mocked now, but he certainly has the chance to show them by trying his luck with the NFL if he decides to.
