There is no stopping Anthony Edwards from being the greatest of all time. In that case, he is learning from the best, Michael Jordan. The Minnesota Timberwolves star has recently reached out to an NBA legend to learn how to beat double teams.
According to ESPN’s Mark Jones, Edwards was feeling the heat of continuous defensive pressure, which had noticeably disrupted his confidence and shot accuracy this season. Despite posting impressive averages of 26.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, frustration with defenders doubling down on him had led to a shooting slump at just 44.0%.
“I was told by someone in his circle that three weeks ago, Ant reached out to Michael Jordan on advice on how to handle some of the double teams and traps that he’s seeing… He’s been extremely frustrated up until late,” Jones wrote.

Michael Jordan, who famously faced relentless double teams throughout his career, is Edwards’ first choice for the right guidance. Jordan’s own experiences with defensive tactics, especially against formidable rivals like the “Bad Boy” Pistons, offer invaluable lessons on overcoming adversity on the court. Though the specifics of their conversation remain private, it’s evident that Anthony got the right mentor for the right kind of help.
Jordan’s influence has rejuvenated Edwards‘ gameplay. Over the last 10 games, Edwards has elevated his performance to an average of 28.8 points, showcasing the potential impact of his mentor’s advice. As the Timberwolves currently sit 7th in the Western Conference, every game counts as they push to climb the standings.

Michael Jordan Sees Similarities Between Him And Anthony Edwards
However, there has been a widely debated discussion on Edwards-Jordan’s stature. Many believe that the young TWolves star will grow out to outlast MJ one day. And it seems a bit convincing. Recently, the legendary Bulls player has weighed in on Anthony Edwards’ playing style, and he sees some striking similarities.
When last year NBA reporter Chris Broussard asked Jordan if he thought Edwards played like him, the Bulls icon agreed. He noted both the physical resemblance and the athletic prowess that Edwards brings to the court.
“I reached out to the GOAT today. He agreed. If Jordan says there are similarities, then there are similarities,” Broussard said.

Although, one of Edwards’ most memorable moments came during a game against the Utah Jazz, where he executed a jaw-dropping dunk over John Collins. The play, however, had its consequences, with both players suffering injuries. Edwards dislocated his finger and Collins sustained a head injury. Despite the pain, Edwards described the moment as a dream come true, exclaiming how it energized him and his teammates.
